Organic Chemistry Laboratory

Description

This lab is designed to give students hands-on experience with basic techniques used for the preparation, separation, purification, and identification of organic compounds. Organic chemistry laboratory course is offered for the undergraduate freshmen in textile engineering. It is an eminently experimental science that is based on a well-established theoretical framework.
Students will learn basic organic laboratory techniques, which will be utilized to prepare, separate, purify and identify organic compounds. Students will also learn some instrumental techniques, e.g., gas chromatography and infrared spectroscopy. Students will also be required to keep a laboratory-grade notebook to write discussions summarizing their laboratory findings, and to familiarize themselves with safety information sources. Therefore, it is essential for these future professionals to learn fast in this laboratory, forming good habits from the outset and developing the necessary skills to address the challenges of the experimental work. Students will learn safety issues in laboratories and how to perform the experiments, writing down their observations and reports their work. They will perform the main basic laboratory procedures, preparation of samples for different spectroscopic techniques, and qualitative organic analysis are described.
