The textile industry is one of the largest industries in the country. Due to the wide variety of products and services it offers, it requires skilled and specialized workforce in various fields.

The production of fibers, yarn, fabric, and clothing, which are among the most essential human needs, as well as the manufacturing of various types of home textiles, medical textiles, construction textiles, protective textiles, military textiles, smart textiles, industrial textiles, and many other products, is made possible through textile engineering.

The mission of the Textile Engineering Department at Amirkabir University of Technology is to train specialists in various fields needed by academia and industry. This field offers undergraduate specializations in Textile Technology, Textile Chemistry, Fiber Science, and Clothing. At the master’s level, in addition to these four specializations, Textile Management and Nanotechnology are also available. Students interested in pursuing further education can choose one of two doctoral specializations: Textile Technology or Textile Chemistry and Fiber Science.

This department is equipped with 36 laboratories, workshops, and research centers, where 50 educational and research workshops and labs are offered. Additionally, the "Institute of Advanced Materials and Technologies in Textiles" has been established in this department to promote applied and developmental research. According to the educational and research background and achievements of the Textile Engineering Department, now this faculty has two scientific hubs within the textile industry in the country: "New Identities in Textiles" and "Interactive Fiber Structures and Environmental Improvement."

The Textile Engineering Department annually accepts around 90 undergraduate students, 60 master's students, and 5 doctoral students. Currently, 27 faculty members are responsible for the academic, educational, and research activities within the department.
